BASIC EXTRACT BREWING INSTRUCTIONS · Remove labels from cans, open, soak in pot of warm water to ease pouring · Place package of grains in muslin bag and tie a knot close to the top · Fill brewpot with two gallons of cold water · Place muslin bag of grains into water and bring water temp up to 170 degrees F · Remove muslin bag and discard · Bring the liquid in the brewpot up to a boil · Remove the brewpot from the heat · Add all the malt extract (liquid and dry) to the brewpot while stirring · Return the brewpot to the stove and bring to a boil. Watch out for boilover! · Boil for a total of one hour · @ 0 minutes into the boil add the bittering hops · @ 30 minutes into the boil add the flavor hops · @ 45 minutes into the boil add one Whirlfloc tablet · @ 60 minutes into the boil shut off the heat and add aroma hops · Allow the pot to cool or force cool in a sink of ice water · Add boiled wort to 3 gallons of cold water in the fermenter · Mix thoroughly · When temperature is less than 75 degrees F take sample for Original Gravity reading · Add proofed ale yeast o To proof yeast add it to one cup of 80 degree F water and looslely cover with foil. Wait 10 minutes. It should foam slightly and have a “bready” aroma. If nothing happens the yeast is no good. Repeat with a new yeast. · Setup airlock on fermenter and within 24 hours it will start fermenting · Keep at 65 to 70 degrees F |
